Who am I?
My Name is Katie and I live on the gorgeous West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. I have three amazing children (7, 4 and under 1) and a fantastic husband that puts up with an often chaotic and messy kitchen! I am lucky to be a stay at home mom at the moment and spend majority of my day singing and playing playdough with the kids 🙂
I love to bake (let’s be honest, I also love to eat!) I am NO expert when it comes to baking and everything I’ve learned has come from cookbooks and the internet. I believe in experimenting and playing with your food until you get it right!
Feel free to leave a comment (it makes my day) and hopefully you’ll find some recipes with poorly written instructions that inspire you!

Happy Baking and I betcha can’t eat just one!
How far up Island are you?
Hey Katie, I just love your blog! It is amazing!!! Next year when it’s canning time, I’m going to do your zucchini lime marmelade!
I also started my own “food blog” as a way of tracking the recipes I’ve tried, what I’d do differently and what we loved.
I discovered yours while helping a friend find a zucchini-lime marmalade recipe. Many thanks!
WOW! Katie this is great! I love your site.. I’m using some of your ideas!
I love your recipes us BC bakers rock lol
Hey Katie,
I love your blog updates on FB. Makes me want to walk over and try one everytime! I was thinking you should open a local bakery, we really need a family bakery business. It’s been years since we had one. Or even a baking class, I would come to everyone.
Take care and keeping baking and blogging.
Alison
Seriously, come on over! There’s usually more than we can eat 🙂

thanks Michelle!
Hello Katie,
I stumbled upon your site for the Oreo Brownie Bars that look so good! I too love to bake and collect cookbooks/ visit bakeries and take baking classes. I live in Osceola, WI (near Minneapolis/St.Paul). I will forever keep Vancouver Island close at heart, my Husband and I were married in Tofino in 2004! I was wondering if you are close to there? We think of that beautiful island often and smile!
Shannon
Thanks for the kind comments Shannon!
We’re about 2 hours from Tofino, It’s so gorgeous there but I HATE the long winding narrow rd to get there, it maks me car sick but it’s on my list of things to do with the kids this summer!! Funny thing….my husband is from MN, just a few hours from the cities! We were married in 2003 and he moved to the Island. What a small small world!
Gorgeous blog! I have limited canadian blog reading so always nice to find a new one!!
All I can say is WOW!!! I knew you were good when I was working in the kindergarten and we got to sample some of your treats!
Do you guest blog?
I have not ever Guest Blogged before but would definatley consider it 🙂
Katie,
I just used your recipe for the Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip cookies…wow! However, a suggestion if I may? Could you put the yield for each of your recipes? I ended up making 48 cookies just now. Not that my family, friends and coworkers will be complaining! Once again, AWESOME recipe! Can’t wait to try out some more!
Thanks for your comment Joel! Honestly, I often bake things and my family eats some and I give some away and often don’t even take notice to how many a full recipe produces but I will try to be more conscious of keeping track and including it in the recipe! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the cookies!
I’m hosting a Christmas Day dinner and needed a dessert. I love meringue and remember that a few years back I had made a dacquoise, and hd ended up finding your recipe through a google search. It was really yummy!! So much so, that I’m going to attempt it again! Thanks for the idea! Cheers!
I enjoyed seeing your cupcakes…I have a sparks enrollment tomorrow and they are perfect!

I tried subscribing to your blog, but I got an error when pressing the Confirm Subscription button in the email. 😦
These are the best chocolate chip cookies I’ve had so far. My whole family loves them. I googled ‘what can you do with 5 oz cream cheese’ and found your recipe. Even my husband loves them and he doesnt eat very many sweets. I hope more people come across this recipe. Also my daughter is allergic to eggs so these are perfect!
Just found your blog via How Sweet it Is and the Egg Nog Choc Chip bread recipe. I love your photos and can’t wait to try some of your recipes!
Your recipes sound so delicious. Im going to try the oreo and chocolate chip cookies tonight. You remind me of that women Julia Child.
hey katie. i love your skittle sugar cookies
Thanks! My husband was recently talking about skittle sugar cookies and how good they are! Will have to make some again soon!
I will miss your SRC posts, but will continue to track your delicious recipes on my own. (You’re right, we usually can’t eat just one.)
