Malted Milk Cookie Crust

Chocolate

Malted Milk Balls

10 minutes of effort!

I came across this recipe on FoodBabbles.com the other day and knew I had to make it soon!

I know that malted milk powder may not be a staple in your baking pantry but it should be and it’s especially delicious paired up with chocolate!  I’ve added malt powder to chocolate chip cookies and most recently to cookie dough brownies.  (I’d link ya up but wordpress isn’t cooperating with me this morning)

Malted Chocolate Tart recipe adapted from foodbabbles.com

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup malted milk powder (found in the tea/coffee aisle near the hot chocolate)
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened and cut into 1″ cubes
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  •  1 cup dark chocolate, chopped (semi sweet chips would also do here)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup malted milk balls, chopped

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

In the bowl of a food processor fitted with the blade attachment, add the flour, sugar, malted milk powder, salt and butter.  Pulse until the mixture comes together.  Add vanilla and pulse briefly.

Turn the dough out into a large tart pan with a removable bottom.  Press cookie firmly onto the bottom and sides of the pan.

Bake for about 25 minutes or until light golden brown.

While the cookie is baking, place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl.  In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the cream until it’s hot but not boiling (I actually just popped it in the microwave for about 40 seconds)

Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let sit for 30 seconds.  Whisk together until smooth and glossy.

Roughly chop the malted milk balls.

Pour the warm ganache over the hot cookie crust and spread it evenly.  Add the malted milk balls to the top and let cool.

Enjoy!
