Our Best Bites has a great grilled pizza tutorial.   I had intended to take more photos but once you get the dough on the grill you have to work so quickly so nothing burns!

BBQ Grilled Pizza  from Our Best Bites

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3-4 1/2 cups of flour
  • Pizza toppings
  • Olive oil

 To make the pizza dough:

In the bowl of a mixer with the dough hook attachment add yeast and sugar to warm water and let everything hang out for a few minutes (3-5) until the yeast begins to bubble up a bit.   Add half of the flour and begin to mix on low speed.  Continue to add flour and knead until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.  Dough will be soft and a be a bit sticky to the touch.

Put in a greased bowl, cover and let rise 45 minutes.

Heat the Grill. (medium high)

Divide the dough up into 4 smaller pizzas or 2 larger ones.  Brush one side with olive oil and put oil side down on the hot grill and SHUT THE LID.  The crusts will puff up really quickly.  Mine took about 3 minutes…but trial and error!   Brush the second side with olive oil and flip it over.  Top with yummy things and close the lid until the cheese is melty and bubbly.

My Pizza is topped with BBQ sauce, grilled chicken breast, grilled pineapple and red peppers, feta and mozarella cheese.
