Chocolate Sheet Cake

June 14, 2009

I made Pioneer Woman’s BEST EVER CHOCOLATE SHEET CAKE yesterday.  I only altered things a little bit…no pecans and I baked it in a 9X13″ pan.

The directions said to pour the icing on top of the warm cake (i took that for take the cake out the oven and pour the icing on it asap) So the warm icing on the hot cake caused my cake to turn really dense and fudgy, don’t get me wrong, it was delicious! But next time i’ll let the cake cool down a bit first!

Chocolate Sheet cake recipe from The Pioneer Woman

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Preheatoven to 350 degrees

Combine flour, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl and set aside.

Melt butter in saucepan over medium low heat.  Add cocoa and stir until combined.  Add boiling water and allow mixture to boil for 30 seconds before remving it from the heat.

Pour the chocolate mixture ontop of the flour mixture and stir to combine.

In another bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla.  Stire this mixture into the chocolate/flour mixture until it’s well combined.  Pour into ungreased 9X13″ pan.  Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until pick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

  • 1 3/4 STICKS of butter
  • 4 tbsp cocoa
  • 6 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 lb minus 1/2 cup powdered sugar  (if someone cal tell me how many cups of powdered sugar are in a pound, i’d be glad to know…my icing sugar comes in 1kg bags..i ended up using WAY too much!)

Melt butter, add cocoa, stir in milk, vanilla and sugar.

Pour frosting over cake, spread, EAT!
